Draft notification on Environmental standards for aluminum plants.

The MoEFCC has proposed amendments to the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (the Act), to control air pollution caused by aluminum industry. The draft notification aims to reduce emissions by lowering emission limits for plants, refineries and furnaces by providing stricter emission standards. It mandates use of cleaner fuels like low sulfur diesel oil (LDO) and minimise fluoride emissions impacting surrounding vegetation.

The proposal is open for comments till 31 December 2024.
